Many notational devices that were designed by the composer are used here for the first time. These include: timetable notation; the OZ pitch-naming convention; articulation symbols for early and late; accidentals for strongly sharp, slightly sharp, natural, slightly flat and strongly flat; an articulation symbol to indicate exaggerated middle overtones; and symbols to indicate increasing and decreasing transitions that are linear, geometric or sinusoidal.
