A Utility to Split and Replace a Measure with a Sequence of Measures
IWBNI there were a utility that could be used to split and replace a given measure with a sequence of measures.
This could be implemented by adding a menu item called Split Measure to the Measure menu that is associated with the measure tool. To split and replace a given measure, one would select a partial measure region of the measure and then select the menu item Split Measure. The utility could be used to split and replace a measure with a sequence of either 2 or 3 measures. To split a given measure into two parts, one would select a partial measure region that contains either the beginning or end of the measure. To split a measure into three parts, one would select a partial measure region that falls in the middle of the measure (i.e. a region that does not contain the beginning or end of the measure). In either case, the beginning and ending boundaries of the partial measure region would be used to specify the points at which the measure is to be split. The musical contents of the original measure would be divided across the resulting measures and appropriate time signatures would be created automatically for each of these measures.
For example, if the first three beats of a measure with time signature 7/4 are selected, the command Split Measure would replace this measure with a sequence of 2 measures with time signatures 3/4 and 4/4. Or, if the second and third beats of the 7/4 measure had been selected, the command Split Measure would replace this measure with a sequence of 3 measures with time signatures 1/4, 2/4 and 4/4.
