IWBNI there were a utility that could be used to merge and replace a given sequence of measures with a single measure.

This could be implemented by adding a menu item called Merge Measures to the Measure menu that is associated with the measure tool. To use this utility, one would select a region of measures and then select the menu item Merge Measures. The utility would replace the selected measures in all staves with a single measure and would copy the contents of each selected measure into the newly created measure. An appropriate time signature would be created automatically for the new measure.

For example, if a sequence of two measures with time signature 3/4 and 4/4 were selected, these measures would be replaced by a single measure with time signature 7/4 and the contents of the original two measures would be used to fill the 7/4 measure.

Composite time signatures would be created automatically in some cases. For example, when merging a sequence of two measures with time signature 4/4 and 3/16, the time signature of the resulting measure would be automatically set to 4/4+3/16.
