Composers on Mathematical Music
Subtext 4842264

When I first made the transition from a continuity that I was directing, as it were, to one which I wasn’t directing, I still had a certain knowledge of the possibilities. And so, seeing that there were some that would be pleasing, I did, at first, wish that they would come up, rather than the ones I didn’t know were pleasing; I discovered that they altered my awareness. That is to say, I saw that things I didn’t think would be pleasing were in fact pleasing, and so my views gradually changed from particular ideas as to what would be pleasing, toward no ideas as to what would be pleasing. . . .
