Select a Beat Iff the Start of the Beat is Enclosed when Selecting Partial Measures
IWBNI when a partial measure region is selected by drag-enclosing a region and the enclosing rectangle contains the start of at least one beat, a given beat were selected if and only if (iff) the start of the beat has been drag enclosed. As it is now, beats are selected in this way in many cases. However, the following examples show that this is not always the case.
Example 1:
Consider the case where there are three staves in the score and in a
given 4/4 measure the outer two staves are empty, and inner staff contains
four quarter notes. Suppose a rectangle is drag enclosed as shown in the
following figure:
In this case, the second beat will become selected (in all staves)
as shown in the following figure:
In this example, the start of the third beat was enclosed and the start
of no other beats were enclosed. If the suggestion proposed here is implemented,
the third beat, and only the third beat, would be selected (in all staves)
in this case.
Example 2:
In this example, there is one staff in the score and a given 4/4 measure contains four quarter notes. Suppose a rectangle is drag enclosed as shown in the following figure:
In this case, the second and third beats will become selected as shown in the following figure:
In this case, the start of the third beat was enclosed and the start of no other beats were enclosed. If the suggestion proposed here is implemented, the third beat, and only the third beat, would be selected in this case.
Note: When a partial measure region is selected by drag-enclosing a region and the enclosing rectangle does not contain the start of any beats, one beat would be selected as in the current version of Finale. In this case, the beat that would be selected is that which begins before, and ends after, the enclosing rectangle.
