Allow End-of-Measure Tuplets with Simple Entry and Check for Extra Notes

IWBNI it were possible to add or insert notes to complete a tuplet at the end of a measure with the simple entry tool when the option Check for Extra Notes has been selected on the Simple menu.

With this feature, for example one could do the following:

  1. Select the simple entry tool and select the option Check for Extra Notes on the Simple menu.

  2.
  3. In a measure with time signature 4/4, enter 3 quarter notes followed by one eighth note.

  4.
  5. Select the tuplet tool and click the eighth note which is on the last beat of the measure to create a tuplet of 3 eighth notes in the time of 2 eighth notes.

  6.
  7. Select the simple entry tool.

  8.
  9. Press the Eighth Note button on the Simple Entry Palette. Click between the eighth note and the right barline to enter two more eighth notes after the existing eighth note to complete the tuplet.
As it is now, it is not possible to perform step 5. The third eighth note of the triplet cannot be entered by following these steps. As it is now, in place of step 5, one may uncheck the menu item Check for Extra Notes on the Simple menu, enter the third eighth note, and select the menu item Check for Extra Notes to restore the setting of this option. Or, one may delete one of the quarter notes, enter the third eighth note of the triplet, and then insert the quarter note that has been deleted. Or, one may change the time signature of the bar temporarily to increase the number of beats in the measure to 5, enter the third eighth note of the triplet, and then change the time signature of the measure back to 4/4. Or, one may use the speedy entry tool to enter the third eighth note of the triplet by placing the insertion bar after the existing two eighth notes at the appropriate pitch and pressing the 4 key (regardless of whether or not the option Check for Extra Notes is selected on the Speedy menu).
