IWBNI there were an option to specify that whenever a new version or a free update to an existing version becomes available, one should be notified automatically of such an event and should be directed to a web page from which a new version or upgrade could be ordered or a free update could be downloaded, if Finale is started when there is an existing internet connection.

This could be implemented by adding a checkbox called Automatic Update Notification to the Other Program Options dialog box. By default, this option would not be selected. If this option is not selected then Finale would not use an internet connection to establish whether or not a new update is available and automatic notification of updates would not be provided as in the current version of Finale.

If the Automatic Update Notification option is selected, a new dialog box called Finale 200x Available would be displayed when a new version of Finale becomes available. This dialog box could contain the following controls:

If the button Purchase Upgrade Now is pressed, a web page would be displayed in the web browser from which an upgrade order could be submitted. If the button Remind Me Later is pressed, after one week has passed, the dialog box would be displayed again the next time Finale is started when there is an existing internet connection.

When a free update becomes available for download, a new dialog box called Finale Update Available could be displayed that could contain the following controls:
