A Utility to Delete Pages

IWBNI there were a utility that could be used to delete a range of pages from a given document.

This could be implemented by adding a menu item called Delete Pages to the Page Layout menu that is associated with the page layout tool. This menu item would display a new dialog box called Delete Pages that could contain the following controls:

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Delete Pages Dialog Box

Delete Page(s)

( ) From Page _____ Through _____
( ) From Page _____ Through End of Piece

[ ] Adjust Page Offset of Page-number Text Inserts
[ ] Adjust Page Numbers in Attributes of Page-attached Objects
--------------------------------------------------------------------

This utility would delete all pages within the specified range, including those created by using the menu item Page Layout>Insert Blank Pages.

When a given page is deleted, all measures that are on the page would be deleted, and all objects that are attached to these measures (e.g. measure-attached expressions and measure-attached smart shapes) or contained within these measures (e.g. entries and mid-measure clefs) would also be deleted. Any page-attached object (e.g. a graphic or a page-attached text block) that is attached to pages within the range of pages to be deleted, and not attached to any pages that are outside this range, would be deleted.

When the range of pages to be deleted does not extend to the end of the document, after pages have been deleted, the pages of a document would be renumbered automatically. If the option Adjust Page Offset of Page-number Text Inserts is selected, the page offset of all page-number text inserts would be incremented by the number of pages that are deleted. For example, if the third page of a document is labeled by a text block as page number 5 and the first two pages of the document are deleted, the page offset of the page-number text insert within the text block would be incremented by 2 so that what was the third page of the document, and is now the first page of the document, would continue to be labeled as page number 5. If the option Adjust Page Numbers in Attributes of Page-attached Objects is selected, the page numbers in the attributes of page-attached items that are attached to a Single Page or Page Range would be decremented by the number of pages that are deleted. For example, if a given text block were attached to Single Page number 3 and page 1 were deleted, after the page is deleted, the attributes of the text block would be adjusted automatically so that it would be attached to Single Page number 2.
