A Shortcut to Change the Pitch of a Note with the Simple Entry Tool

IWBNI there were a keyboard shortcut that could be used with the simple entry tool to replace a given note or chord with another note of the same duration.

This could be implemented by allowing one to press a key while clicking the staff at the horizontal position of the original note or chord and at the staff position of the note that is to replace the original note or chord. This would cause a new note to be created at the selected staff position with the same duration as the original note or chord, and the original note(s) would be deleted automatically.

The key Shift+N could be used to create a note with no accidental. Here, N stands for note. As it is now, the Shift key is associated with the replace operation as it may be used to replace a given note or chord with a rest of the duration specified by the Simple Entry Palette or with a rest of duration specified by a number key that is pressed while holding the shift key.

Alternatively, the keys Shift+[, Shift+] or Shift+' could be used for this purpose to create a flatted note, sharped note, or a note with no accidental, respectively. The [, ], ' keys are shortcuts for the Half Step Up, Half Step Down, and Remove Accidental buttons on the Simple Entry Palette. Note: As it is now, when Shift+[, Shift+], or Shift+' is pressed when clicking on an existing note, a parenthesized flat, sharp or natural is created.
