An Option to Automatically Center Tuplet Numbers Horizontally on Bracket
IWBNI there were an option to specify that for a given tuplet, the tuplet number should be centered horizontally on the bracket in the case when the tuplet marking consists of a bracket and number. As it is now, after the left and right extensions of a given tuplet bracket have been adjusted as needed, the number or ratio can be centered horizontally on the bracket by calculating a number K given by the following formula:
K = ( ( Right Extension + Left Extension ) / 2 ) rounded down to the nearest integerand setting the text boxes Number H and Shape H on the Tuplet Definition dialog box to the following values:
Number H = KNote: These formulas apply to the case when the option Ignore Format Offset is selected on the Tuplet Definition dialog box.
Shape H = -K
This could be implemented by adding a checkbox called Center Number on Bracket to the Display section of the Tuplet Definition dialog box. If this option is not selected, the number would be positioned as in the current version of Finale. Otherwise, the number would be centered horizontally on the bracket and the horizontal position of the number and shape would be calculated automatically as a function of the Left Extension and Right Extension by using the formulas given here.
