An Option to Replace Illegal File Name Characters when Extracting Parts
IWBNI there were an option to specify that all illegal file name characters that occur in file names that are automatically generated when parts are extracted should be replaced by a specified character. As it is now, when an illegal file name character is encountered, the affected part is not created and the following error message is displayed:
Cannot rename fileFor example, this error will occur if %s is used in the Generate Name From text box on the Extract Parts dialog box and a staff name contains a character that may not be used in a file name. For example, this error would occur with the staff name "Flute/Picc." because the character '/' is not a legal file name character.
This could be implemented by adding the following controls to the File Names section of the Extract Parts dialog box:
----------------------------------------------
Extract Parts Dialog Box
[ ] Replace Illegal Characters With: _____
----------------------------------------------
These new controls would be used when the radio button Generate Names From is selected. If the option Replace Illegal Character With is selected, the specified character would be used in place of all illegal file name characters. For example, one might specify that the hyphen character by used for this purpose.
