A Keyboard Shortcut to Cancel a Zoom Operation
IWBNI there were a keyboard shortcut that could be used to cancel a given zoom operation before all key presses and mouse clicks that are required to invoke the operation have been completed.
This could be implemented by allowing one to press the Escape key (Esc) to cancel a zoom operation. The Esc key could be pressed before the zoom operation is completed as indicated by the following sequences of steps:
Zooming In Using the Zoom Tool Temporarily (Drag-Enclose in Page
View)
Select page view.
(Select any tool.)
Press and hold the Shift key.
Press and hold the right mouse button on some point on the score.
Release the Shift key.
Drag-enclose a rectangle that is to be enlarged.
To cancel the zoom operation, press Esc before releasing the right
mouse button.
Release the right mouse button.
Zooming Out Using the Zoom Tool Temporarily (Drag-Enclose in Page
View)
Select page view.
(Select any tool.)
Press and hold the Shift key.
Press and hold the Ctrl key.
Press and hold the right mouse button on some point on the score.
Release the Shift key and Ctrl key.
Drag-enclose a rectangle (For example, one can drag-enclose a rectangle
that almost fills the entire window to zoom out by a small amount.)
To cancel the zoom operation, press Esc before releasing the right
mouse button.
Release the right mouse button.
Zooming In Using the Zoom Tool Temporarily (Enlarge by a Factor of
2)
Select page view or scroll view.
(Select any tool.)
Press and hold the Shift key.
Press and hold the right mouse button on some point on the score.
Release the Shift key.
To cancel the zoom operation, press Esc before releasing the right
mouse button.

Zooming Out Using the Zoom Tool Temporarily (Reduce by a Factor of
2)
