IWBNI there were a simple entry palette for dotted notes. The palette could contain 9 buttons which would be the dotted versions of the durations for which there are buttons in the simple entry palette (i.e. dotted quarter, dotted eighth, etc.). As with the simple entry palette, a dotted rest would be inserted by holding down the shift key when clicking a staff.
There could be a checkbox on the Program Options dialog box (analogous to Show Rest Palette in Simple Entry) to control whether or not this palette is displayed when the simple entry tool is selected.
As it is now, it is possible to directly enter a dotted note by using the simple entry tool. For example, to enter a dotted quarter note, one could:
1. Turn on Num Lock,
2. Press the number 5 on the number keypad and simultaneously press
the period on the numeric keypad, and
3. Click on a staff.
Or, the * key on the numeric keypad can be pressed prior to clicking a existing note to add a dot to the note.
Still, a palette might be simpler.
