An Option to Display Selection Lists with Columns of Item Settings

IWBNI there were an option that could be used to specify that the contents of a given selection list (e.g. the list on the Articulation Selection dialog box) should be expanded to include columns of item settings.

This feature could be used to quickly check or compare the settings of the items in a given selection list.

This could be implemented by adding the following radio buttons to each selection list dialog box:

------------------------------
Selection List Dialog Box

( ) Brief List
( ) Expanded List
------------------------------

When the option Brief List is selected, the items in the selection list dialog box would be displayed as in the current version of Finale. When the option Expanded List is selected, the settings for each item would be displayed in columns. Items could be edited by using exiting functionality. To edit an item one would select a row of the list box and press the Edit button. For an example of a list box with columns, see the window pane that displays the messages in a selected folder in the Netscape Communicator version 4.51. This is shown in the following figure:

In this interface, the width of columns may be adjusted by dragging column border lines in the header. Also, column headings may be dragged and dropped to rearrange the order in which columns are displayed. A given column heading may be clicked to sort the list box items by the values in the column. The date column may be clicked twice to reverse the sorting order. The number of columns that are displayed can be changed by clicking the left and right arrow buttons in the top right corner of the window. The items in the list may be grouped and displayed in folders of related items (in this case grouped by sender name) by pressing the lined button at the top left corner of the window.

This display option could be added to all of the following selection list dialog boxes:

For example, for the Expression Selection dialog box, one might choose to display the following columns of data:
