Invoking Commands from a MIDI Keyboard
IWBNI it were possible to assign any command to a key on a MIDI keyboard.
With this feature, one could for example assign the playback functions play, stop and record to keys on the MIDI keyboard. Or, any menu item could be selected by pressing a specified MIDI key.
A specified MIDI key that would not be used for musical purposes could be used to enable the command mode of the MIDI keyboard. While this key is pressed, other MIDI keys could be played to invoke commands. Alternatively, the MIDI key that is designated to be used for command-mode switching could be pressed and released to enable or disable the command mode.
For an example of a program that has this feature, see the Key Bindings option of Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 by Twelve Tone Systems.
