Automatic Creep Compensation for Printing Booklets
IWBNI it were possible to specify that page margins should be automatically adjusted to compensate for creep when printing booklets. After a booklet is trimmed the sheets in the center of the booklet will be narrower than those at the outside of the booklet. Without creep compensation the outer margins of pages that are in the center of a booklet will be smaller than those of page that are at the beginning and end so that the content of pages gradually creeps to the outer edge of the booklet. With creep compensation, the outer margins of all pages are equal after the booklet has been trimmed.
This could be implemented by adding the following control to the Print dialog box:
--------------------------------------------------
Print Dialog Box
Creep Compensation: _____ | measurement units list box {EVPUs, Inches, Centimeters, ...}|
--------------------------------------------------
For a given sheet of paper, a multiple M of the specified Creep Compensation would be subtracted from the inner page margin and added to the outer page margin of all four pages that are to be printed to the sheet. For a given sheet, M would equal (S-1) where S is the number of the sheet with sheets being number consecutively from the outside of the booklet to the center of the booklet.
For an example of a music notation program that has this feature, see Music Press by Graphire.
