A Simple Entry Palette for Creating Schenker Graphs

IWBNI there were a simple entry palette that could be used to create a Schenker graph. As it is now, such graphs may be created by using a combination of tools such as the note shape tool (to make selected solid noteheads hollow), the custom-stem tool (to remove stems from selected notes by replacing existing stems with an empty shape), the reverse stem and beam angle tools (to beam two notes that have opposite stem directions) and the tab slide tool (to create pseudo-beams over barlines).

This could be implemented by adding a Schenker Graph Palette to the simple entry tool. A checkbox option called Show Schenker Graph Palette in Simple Entry could be added to the Program Options dialog box and a menu item Schenker Graph Palette could be added to the Window menu.

Palette buttons could be provided for the following types of notes:

For an example of a music notation program that provides a palette button for stemless notes, see the Notation Editor which is part of the Multimedia Music Theory Teaching Project (MMTT) of the Department of Theory at Indiana University.

For an on-line example of a Schenker graph that was created using Finale, see: Music Publishing Services - Music Analysis Notation.
