Option to Append Syllables to Source Lyric when Copying Lyrics
IWBNI it were possible to specify that lyric syllables that are copied by using the mass mover tool or lyric tool should be appended to the source lyric. As it is now, such copied lyric syllables become attached to more than one note (i.e. they are cloned). Note: To avoid cloning lyrics when copying, the menu items Edit>Insert and Edit>Replace Entries may be used. These operations create new lyrics that contain a duplicate of the lyric syllables that have been copied.
This could be implemented by adding the following options next to the Lyrics checkbox on the Entry Items dialog box that is associated with the menu item MassMover>Move Entry Items:
----------------------------------
[ ] Lyrics ( ) Clone ( ) Append
----------------------------------
If Lyrics is checked, then either Clone or Append would be selected. If Clone is selected, the behavior would be as it is in the current version of Finale. Specifically, any lyric syllables that are copied would become attached to more than one note. If Append is selected, any lyric syllables that are copied would be appended to the source lyric itself and these appended syllables would be attached to the notes that are the target of the copy operation.
Also, a menu item called Append Lyric could be added to the Lyrics menu. This would function like the existing menu item Lyrics>Clone Lyric but lyric syllables would be appended rather than cloned.
For example, suppose a bar that is to be copied consists of one whole note to which the syllable of the monosyllabic lyric "Test" has been attached. If this bar is copied using the mass mover tool by dragging the source bar to the target or by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Click on the target bar, the following would occur:
