IWBNI each complementary pair of plug-in menu items were replaced by a single menu item with a check mark to indicate the current state.

To implement this, for example, the menu items Flat Beams and Flat Beams (Remove) could be replaced by one menu item called Flat Beams. The functionality of the menu item Text>Style>Italic that is associated with the text tool could serve as a model for the functionality of the new Flat Beams menu item. If all beams in the selected region are flat, then this menu item would be checked and the operation Flat Beams (Remove) would be performed if the item were selected. Otherwise, the item would be unchecked and the operation Flat Beams would be performed.
