Named Layers
IWBNI it were possible to assign a name to each layer of a staff.
Layer names could be displayed in the Instrument List window. They could provide additional flexibility when attaching supplementary information that is to be positioned relative to the left edge of a given staff. Finally, they could be used in a new feature that would allow one to extract a part that consists of a single layer of a staff.
This feature could be implemented by adding a button called Layer Names to the Staff Attributes dialog box. This button would display a new dialog box called Layer Names that could contain the following controls:
----------------------------------------------
Layer Names Dialog Box
Full Layer 1 Name: xxx [Edit] [ ] [Position]
Abbr. Layer 1 Name: xxx [Edit] [ ] [Position]
Full Layer 2 Name: xxx [Edit] [ ] [Position]
Abbr. Layer 2 Name: xxx [Edit] [ ] [Position]
Full Layer 3 Name: xxx [Edit] [ ] [Position]
Abbr. Layer 3 Name: xxx [Edit] [ ] [Position]
Full Layer 4 Name: xxx [Edit] [ ] [Position]
Abbr. Layer 4 Name: xxx [Edit] [ ] [Position]
----------------------------------------------
Alternatively, the controls for Full Staff Name and Abbr. Staff Name that are located at the top of the Staff Attributes dialog box could be included in this new dialog box. In this case, the new button and dialog box could be called Names and Staff and Layer Names, respectively.
Also, the following checkboxes could be added to the Items to Display section of the Staff Attributes dialog box:
---------------------
Items to Display
[ ] Layer 1 Name
[ ] Layer 2 Name
[ ] Layer 3 Name
[ ] Layer 4 Name
---------------------
