Conventions for Beaming Notes of the Same Duration
IWBNI it were possible to specify that conventions for beaming a sequence of notes that have the same duration be followed automatically in binary, ternary and compound meters.
This could be implemented by adding a button called Beaming Repeated Durations in place of the section that contains the option Beam Four Eighth Notes Together in Common Time on the Beaming Options dialog box. This button would display a new dialog box called Beaming Repeated Durations that could have the following options:
-----------------------------------------------------------
Beaming Repeated Durations
4/4
[ ] Beam Four Eighth Notes Together
[ ] Include Rests when Beaming in Groups of Four
[ ] Beam Three Eighth Notes Before/After an Eighth Rest
[ ] Also Applies to 2/4 Time
3/4 Time
[ ] Beam Six Eighth Notes Together
[ ] Also Applies to Times: 6/4, 9/4, 12/4, etc.
3/8 Time
[ ] Beam Three Eighth Notes Together
[ ] Beam Six Sixteenth Notes Together
[ ] Also Applies to Times: 6/8, 9/8, 12/8, etc.
-----------------------------------------------------------
As it it now, these beaming conventions may be followed by making appropriate selections on the Time Signature dialog box and/or by manually adding or removing beams with the speedy entry tool.
For more information on beaming conventions, see pages 110-113 of Music Notation in the Twentieth Century by Kurt Stone.
