Jump To a Measure Without Using the Mouse
IWBNI on the Macintosh platform, it were possible to jump to a given measure from within scroll view without using the mouse.
As it is now, it is possible to accomplish this on the Windows platform by following these steps:
1. Press and hold the Alt key.
2. Press the "U" key.
3. Release the Alt and "U" keys.
4. Type a measure number (e.g. 42).
5. Press Enter.
On Windows, pressing Alt+U causes the keyboard focus to be directed to the box at the bottom of the scroll view window into which one may enter a measure number. This is due to the fact that the "u" in the label for this control is underlined (i.e. Measure:). Such functionality does not exist on the Macintosh platform.
This feature could be implemented on the Windows and Macintosh platforms by adding a menu item called Go To to the Edit menu that could be invoked by using the accelerator key Ctrl+G on the Windows platform or Command-G on the Macintosh platform. This menu item could display a new dialog box called Go To from which one could specify the type of the desired destination (e.g. page, measure, system, or bookmark) and the identity of the destination (e.g. a particular number or name). A similar feature exists in the programs Word and Excel from Microsoft.
The dialog box could have the following controls:
-------------------------------------
Go To
Go to What:
Page
Measure
System
Bookmark
Number or Name:_____
[OK]
-------------------------------------
When scroll view is selected, the default destination type could be Measure. When page view is selected, the default destination type could be Page. When the dialog box is opened, the keyboard focus could be set to the Number or Name entry. With this default behavior, when scroll view is selected, the following keystrokes could be used to jump to a specified measure:
1. Press Ctrl+G on Windows or Command-G on the Macintosh.
2. Type a number (e.g. 42).
3. Press Enter.
When page view is selected, the same keystrokes could be used to jump to a specified page in page view.
