Tuplet Numbers That are Shapes or Font Characters

IWBNI it were possible to create tuplet numbers that consist of any font character or shape. To implement this feature, an item called Custom... could be added to the list box for Number on the Tuplet Definition dialog box. When Custom is selected, a new dialog box called Custom Tuplet Number could be displayed with the following options:

--------------------------------
( ) Shape
( ) Character [Select] [Set Font]

Position H:___ V:___

Width:
( ) Use Shape/Character Width
( ) Use Width:___
--------------------------------

The Shape, Character and Position settings are modeled after similar options in the Articulation Designer dialog box. The Width setting specifies the amount of horizontal space that should be allocated for the tuplet number which may be deduced from the specified shape or character, or may be specified by entering a numeric value (e.g. 63 EVPUs).

With such a feature, one could create any of the following types of tuplet numbers to indicate a tuplet that consists of 5 1/16th notes to be played in the time of a quarter note:

Or, for an incomplete tuplet that is 1 of 3 eighth notes played in the time of 2 the tuplet number could be: With the feature proposed here, all of these types of tuplet numbers could be created by using either Finale's Shape Designer or Fontographer.
