IWBNI it were possible to specify that the tip of a smart shape slur should never end on a staff line. The same may be said of the tab slide that may be used as a straight-line glissando.
An option called Avoid Staff Lines could be added to smart shape slurs and tab slides that would allow one to specify the position of the slur/slide tip as a positive, zero or negative number of EFIXs (i.e. 1/64ths of an EVPU) that would be a displacement from the center of the staff space.
As it is now, there is no way to do this for slurs because slur placement settings apply to all notes whether they are on a staff line or space.
And, as it is now, there is no way to do this for tab slides that run from a line-note to a space-note or vice versa. For such mixed cases (i.e. space to line or line to space), there are no placement options available and it Finale uses an uncontrollable default that causes the slide to end on the staff line.
As are result, the vertical position of the tips of such slurs and slides must be adjusted manually.
