IWBNI there were a utility that could suggest possible appropriate clef changes (and 8va changes) in a given staff for a given instrument.

For example, the utility might take a given cello part and suggest tenor or treble clef changes for certain passages. Or for a passage in a violin part that rises high above the treble staff, the utility could suggest and convert it using 8va. The utility could know which clefs are generally used for each type of instrument and which instruments prefer ledger lines to 8va.
