The second piece of the suite begins with a 5-note phrase. Then the cellist performs improvised material that is derived from transformations of the two themes presented at the opening of the first piece of the suite. (Improvisations are not included in the MIDI file.) The piece ends with 5 written bars.

The opening and closing material is played pizzicato. The majority of the improvised material is also played in this manner with the possible exception of some bowed notes that emphasize the notes of one of the themes when these themes occur against a background of other notes.
